
Amie Bolissian researches the History of medicine, old age, and the body in England from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries.
Her Wellcome-funded PhD project at University of Reading, England, is ‘The Aged Patient in Early Modern England, 1570-1730’ and investigates understandings of old age and the thoughts and feelings of ageing patients and their caregivers.
Amie works with a wide range of sources, from published medical texts, doctors’ casebooks, diaries, and letters, to poor law petitions, ballads, and spiritual treatises.
